Many, many times has he wondered out alone into the great grey monster’s mouth, the City.

Walked among the odd and strange, the shoppers, the people of the consumer age.

Mr. Barley Rice has many many dreams while wondering alone in the grey dimness of the consumer waste and transport smog of the city street.

Maybe his whishes were of the bright neon dream,
the automatic chemical drinks machine,
the video display, giving 800 ways to pay,
the neon signs on every wall,
the walk, walk, don’t walk, don’t step on the grass - what grass?
the buy, buy, buy now pay later interest free credit,
the GREAT, GREAT, LAST DAY SALE, SALE.

Maybe, he whishes to walk abong the model citizens,
the tall and perfect, the face lifted, lipo sucked,
with consumer credit, high power, money, money,
Buy, Buy, renew, refill,re-order, retire,
golden handshake, tip the taxi, tip the waiter,
spare change please? walk on by,
Live the life to the full.

Mr. Barly-Rice often dreamed while lookiing up at all of this.
But Mr. Barly-Rice, he knows the truth, the bitter bitter truth.
